The Origin of Astrology: Egyptian and Babylonian Science by Vijay Dubey and Anu Kumari
The first known astrological texts, written in cuneiform on clay tablets, are from the Old Babylonian period around the time of Hammurabi, the king who wrote the first written testament of the law known as the Hammurabi Code and quoted in the Old Testament—”An eye for an eye.” Tooth for tooth, tooth for tooth. Like the peoples of many other cultures, the people of Mesopotamia believed that the stars and planets were in fact gods and goddesses. Venus was Ishtar, one of their principal deities.
The Egyptians identified the constellation Orion as the epitome of the underworld. from the god Osiris. Although the people of Mesopotamia were unique in their view of the stars and planets as they were indicators of divine will at any time, here and now, thus making them the originator of astrology as we understand it today .
Astrology is both an art and a science. It is a symbolic representation of all the elements – whether religious, spiritual, emotional, mental and physical, invisible or visible – that exist in the universe and come together in extreme combinations that shape individual human beings and forces and those Take action on We are manifesting the universe, an ancient concept present in the Bible as created by man in the image of God.
Chinese astrology is partly based on such observation. What did these creatures represent for our ancestors, who knew and observed them so deeply? It seems that the drawings on the cave walls are not just the beginning of art, but the beginning of written language, with visual symbols drawn from nature expressing meaning beyond their simple and mundane representations.
The development of astrology seems to have gone through three major phases. First of all, learning developed around the observation of the omen. Then a zodiacal circle developed, without individual horoscopes, of twelve signs, through which the transits of Jupiter were recorded at the rate of one zodiac sign per year. From this, some believe, came the basis for the Chinese system of assigning a Zodiac animal sign each year (Chinese animal signs have a direct connection to the Western ones the Zodiac). Then came Kundali astrology, which involved the casting of individual birth charts.
