Vedic Astrology: The Ancient Oracle of Hindu Tradition by Priyank Singh
(Bit of text disformatting in ebook in last lines of page; though understandable )
Hindu astrology, also known as Vedic astrology or Jyotish, is a traditional system of astrology originating in ancient India. It is deeply rooted in Hindu philosophy and has been practiced for thousands of years. Here’s a brief description of Hindu astrology:
- Foundation: Hindu astrology is based on the belief that cosmic forces and celestial bodies influence human lives and destinies. It operates on the principle of karma and reincarnation, suggesting that past actions (karma) influence present circumstances and future outcomes.
- Planetary Influences: In Hindu astrology, there are nine main celestial bodies called “grahas” or planets: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu (the lunar nodes). These planets are believed to represent specific energies and influence various aspects of life.
- Zodiac System: Hindu astrology uses a sidereal zodiac system based on the fixed stars, which differs slightly from the tropical zodiac system used in Western astrology. The zodiac is divided into 12 equal segments, known as “rashis” or signs, each spanning 30 degrees of celestial longitude.
- Nakshatras: Apart from the signs, Hindu astrology also considers the 27 lunar constellations or “nakshatras,” which are smaller divisions within the zodiac. Each nakshatra is associated with specific qualities and influences various aspects of life, such as personality traits, emotions, and compatibility.
- Astrological Charts: Hindu astrology utilizes various types of astrological charts, including the birth chart (Janma Kundali), which maps the positions of celestial bodies at the time of a person’s birth. Other charts like Navamsa chart, Dasha system, and Divisional charts provide additional insights into different aspects of life.
- Predictive Techniques: Hindu astrology employs predictive techniques such as planetary periods (Dasha), transits (Gochara), and yogas (planetary combinations) to forecast future events, analyze life patterns, and assess the timing of significant life events.
- Remedial Measures: Hindu astrology also offers remedies, known as “upayas,” to mitigate negative planetary influences and enhance positive energies. Remedies may include wearing gemstones, performing rituals (pujas), reciting mantras, practicing meditation, and charitable acts.
- Astrological Consultation: Astrologers in the Hindu tradition play a significant role in providing guidance and counsel based on astrological insights. Individuals often seek astrological consultations for various life decisions, including marriage, career, health, and spiritual growth.
