Read a Horoscope Holistically: A Four Step Approach to Interpret Horoscopes Using Vedic Methodology by Kriyamana Joshi
This book is not a course on the basics of Vedic Astrology. Nor this book intends to demonstrate any methodology about making accurate predictions or timing events with precision. This book focuses on providing the solution to the problem of many beginner astrologers that how to scan a horoscope in entirety. The procedure described in the book is heavily inspired from the works of a great Vedic astrologer Hart Defouw, who used this structured process of scanning a horoscope in his book “Light On Life (Arkana)”. He identified the root problem as below:
“The novice astrologer’s greatest problem is how to synthesize several astrological factors. Neophyte jyotishis tend to take one symbol and, because it is manageable, work it to death…Classical textbooks on Jyotish try to avoid this difficulty by forcing the novice from the very start to work with those complicated combinations called graha yogas. This approach cultivates the necessary and constructive habit of taking many influences into consideration when coming to an astrological conclusion.”
A simple Rashi chart or a LAGNA chart in itself contains enough information, at least for a beginner to an intermediate level astrologer, to be able to make reasonable conclusions. It is a very important step to master some of the basic elements and develop expert-level fluency before taking up the advanced method and finetune their predictions. This is the main purpose of the book.
This book includes very detailed horoscope analyses (each being 3000+ words long) of three celebrities using the structured process explained by Hart defouw with some more additions like Rahu-Ketu Axis analysis.
Since the purpose of this book is to elaborate on a specific process of scanning a horoscope through detailed case studies, there is only a cursory approach taken related to basics of Astrology as such information is very widely and easily available on the internet through lectures and other means. It is expected that the reader has some elementary knowledge about the nature of planets, houses and zodiac signs and can do some elementary analysis of some planetary positions.
I sincerely hope that the original case studies presented in the book will help practicing Vedic astrologers in refining their knowledge.
