Knowing Your Child Through His Handwriting and Drawings by Shirl Solomon

This book shows parents and teachers how to recognize a child”s inner feelings from age two and a half on up. It becomes possible to spot normal growing-up problems before they become so serious that they damage the child’s education, personality and growth.
Mrs. Solomon, a former consultant to the Palm Beach County Public Schools and the Juvenile Court and a lecturer on children’s graphological identities for over thirty years, is the first trained graphologist to analyze successfully such a young age group. Her work is based on the fact that the words and drawings of a child depend upon the coordination of mind and body. Any interference will affect the not-so-simple act of writing and drawing, as will be discovered in this book.
Mrs. Solomon has included hundreds of writing and drawing examples by every type of child, advanced or slow, boys or girls, from all types of backgrounds, and she analyzes each specimen for what it reveals about the child. She then provides practical suggestions and aids for dealing with specific problems that are revealed (sometimes by the parent and sometimes by a doctor—or, if necessary, a psychiatrist or psychologist).
Mrs. Solomon shows the reader exactly what to look for, step by step, explaining the basis of her handwriting analysis for young children so fully and clearly that the reader learns how to analyze his or her own children’s handwriting and drawings. Investigated are temperament, passivity, causes of non-learning, eye reversals, hearing problems, motor problems, concentration, memory, resistance to authority, discipline, fear of failure, changes, growing older, being alone, unhealthy guilt or anger, undisclosed desires and temptations, what a child thinks of himself—and much more.
As Dr. R. J. LaManna writes in his Foreword, “By applying the principles discussed in this book, parents can learn a great deal about the personality traits of the child that cause him to act as he does. This knowledge will enable them not only to help the child but to improve the parent-child relationship considerably, and thereby provide the security a child needs to face the problems of society.”
